A few thoughts on continued gun control efforts…..

(Before It's News)

Well – your President signed 23 Executive Orders on Wednesday in response to several recent mass shootings. Many gun owners all over the country are breathing a giant sigh of relief in that the President did not reclassify commonly owned semi-automatic firearms as Class 3. He did not institute a 50% tax on ammunition. He did not do many of the things which people have feared he would.

Well, we are all in the clear, right? WRONG. Although these 23 Executive Orders may not prevent the vast majority of us from going to our local gun shop and buying what we want, along with the ammunition and accessories – the anti-gun crowd has a victory in their quest for eventual total confiscation and total gun banning.  The 23 Orders are done. So, what are the Executive Orders?

From /tea-party/2013/01/obamas-full-list-of-23-executive-orders-on-gun-control-2473804.html

  1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.
  2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.
  3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.
  4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.
  5. Propose rule making to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.
  6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.
  7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.
  8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
  9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
  10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.
  11. Nominate an ATF director.
  12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.
  13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.
  14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.
  15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.
  16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.
  17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.
  18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.
  19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.
  20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.
  21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.
  22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.
  23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

Reading through this list many of you may say to yourself, “Self, some of these make sense.” Well – you may be right and you may be wrong. Will any of these have prevented the shootings in Connecticut or Aurora? No – they wouldn’t have.  So why do it? Politics. It is as simple as that – pure politics and political motivation to appear that they are taking responsible action to prevent another tragedy.

Not to get too technical, but…….phooey!

New York: New York Governor Cuomo just signed into law some of the most restrictive gun control laws ever enacted. Gun control measures were so strict in fact that it will be illegal to purchase a firearm magazine which can hold more than 7 rounds – even if you are  in law enforcement. If you live in New York…..move!

Congress: Congress has yet to vote on any gun control measures. Although no one knows for sure what exactly will be introduced nor what will pass – word on the street is the Senate does not have the votes to pass much of anything. So – it looks like a repeat of the 94 AWB (or worse) is not going to happen.

Dianne-Feinstein

What does all this mean? Well – to start with it looks as though the shortage of firearms, magazines and ammunition should be ending. When? Who knows but my guess is within a few months.

What do we do now? We MUST remain proactive and vigilant when it comes to voting out those that would back ANY gun control measures. We must fund organizations such as the National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of America.

We also must prepare. If things go as I predict and for most of us firearms, ammunition, and magazines become readily available again – lets look at this as a reprieve and take advantage. If you were caught with your pants down and realized you didn’t have enough ammunition, guns and magazines – fix that situation.  When able – stock up.

It’s going to be interesting.
