We posted on our Facebook page:
Comment #1: Military polypropelene base layer tops and bottoms….super warm!!
Comment #2: Military style silks (1), waffles 2. Saved my life many a cold nights lol. I’ve found nothing better yet.
Comment #3: Silk longjohns. These things are amazingly warm for being so thin and nit scatchy at all unlike traditional longjohns. A bit expensive but well worth it. You can find them in the hunting department.
Comment #4: Base layer, natural silk or polypro long johns, and then layers, stay away from cotton. Fleece is good, so is wool, though wool is heavy. A down vest is a good layer, and something to break the wind, and possibly stop rain, but does not trap body moisture. As for freedom of movement, that comes down to fit and cut.
Comment #5: We live in WY, at 7000 feet, we do night calving in Jan, Fed and March, very cold these months, especially at night. Under Armor as a base layer has been the best thing ever! We still need to layer, but man did it make a difference, even in the wind we get here.
