Post SHTF, one of the main means of acquiring what you need will be bartering. Two things that I buy for bartering purposes are booze and spaghetti. Booze is good for obvious reasons. People do NOT give up there vices, even after SHTF. I buy the pint sized Vodka of at least 70 proof. The reason for that is that 70 to 80 proof is a good sterilizer for medical emergencies (scalpels, needles..etc.) Anything 100 proof and over will NOT sterilize effectively as well as 70 to 90 proof.

Spaghetti is a good bartering item because you can get the 1lb boxes for $1.00 to $1.50. Once you sterilize a 2 liter soda bottle, you can store 4 to 6 boxes inside. This keeps them good for an additional 2 years. Good trading stock.

Other bartering items….lighters, can openers, ammo, reading glasses, magnifying lenses, tools, nails, screws,…etc. Comment on what you think are some good bartering items.
