Christopher McCue asks: “Im going camping for a week down in south Texas helping out a boyscout troop as a leader. I have heard that if you eat alot of garlic in your diet that it will act as a natural insect repellent. Was wonder if anyone has try this or if anyone knows if this is true or false.”
Commenter 1: “It also acts as a great person repellent.”
Commenter 2: “This really works. I have used them and I know for a fact. Dryer sheets. put one in each boot and one in each pocket of your shirt and pants. Also rattle snakes are out. Do not wear shorts but long pants and high top boots. Good luck…”
Commenter 3: “I’ve eaten lots of garlic my whole life and i’m the last one to be bothered by mosquitos…maybe they just don’t like my blood…who knows…we used to use the Avon skin-so-soft on us and our dogs when we went camping – it does work well ( it does have quite a smell, but not as bad as commercial repellents)”

Normally listermint (a mouthwash) are used in South Africa as a insect repellent. Just spray in tent and on youself. A peppermint extract will also do the works.
