Birds are delicious. There’s no two ways about it. Goose and duck is full of greasy goodness. Chicken is awesome. Doves, pheasant, grouse, bring it on! Thank you dinosaurs, for your genetic legacy of deliciousness.
So I’m thinking that if TSHTF there will be no more grocery stores. Ammo might even become very precious, so I was thinking to myself on how maybe you could catch a bird or birds without firearms and without your local grocery store. I think I came up with a way and all you will need is a long poled net, and a friend. Oh, and a hill. So here is the set up, and please excuse the horrible MS paint drawings:
Basically the set up includes a hill or depression where you can hide and you know birds may congregate. You hide yourself in that hill or depression, either sneaking around the birds so they don’t see you or settling in for a wait until some birds show up. You’ll know the habits because you’ll have been scouting, right? Then what you need is some sort of friend (or hungry accomplice, friendship doesn’t apply as long as you share) who can position themselves behind the birds which are behind where you are. Then, when you are both ready, this happens:
Your friend runs at the birds, driving them to take off in the direction of where you are hiding. Your net goes up, if you’re lucky you catch the bird in it, and boom! You have dinner, and you didn’t have to fire a single shot.
So there’s my hypothesis. Would it work in practise you think?
