I have written articles and posts to say stop and reflect but I was touched the other day by something my son did for my daughter. He bought her a rose. Why, you may ask. Because she had a recital and it was a great way to congratulate her.
After the recital, she came home and put it in a vase of water to preserve it. Honestly, she is the one person in the family that has a greener thumb than myself. The rose will stay alive for around six weeks which is amazing to me.
I walked past the vase and admired the red rose against the background of white from the wall and counter but did just that, walked past.
The reality is we don’t take time for ourselves because things tend to get in the way. This eventually leads to stress, health issues and errors in our preps and day-to-day activities.
I want you to STOP! Yes, literally stop for one minute. Close your eyes and inhale deeply through your nose and exhale slowly through your mouth. The canning can wait. The plants will be okay. You can put the ammo on the shelf in a moment. Go ahead. Breathe. I’ll wait.
Welcome back. What you now experience is something that will lead to a longer life of happiness and enjoyment.
As I reflect on my actions after the rose was in the vase, I walked past the counter three or four times and caught small glimpses of the color and contrast. Red against a background of white. But I kept walking past. Until I finally stopped.
I stopped, looked thoroughly at the rose and then leaned over to smell it. The fragrance and beauty was amazing.
It got me to thinking that we should all spend time with our families. Take a moment to reorganize. Or better still just sit and gaze at nature’s beauty. The food storage will wait and at this very moment, hopefully your ammo inventory is not a crucial focal point.
But do, take a moment to stop and smell the roses or just take the one minute to breathe. This will lead to a longer and happier life and allow you to reflect on the things that really matter most.
Until then,
