Gun Guy Radio 084 - Listener Feedback Roundtable Circus

Mike, Hank, Greg, Steve and Jake tackle the last 4 weeks of listener feedback and manage to keep the animals from stampeding the crowd…

Welcome to Episode 084 of Gun Guy Radio,—-this is the podcast that shines a positive light on the firearms lifestyle. I’m Your host Jake Challand and this is your weekly dose of positive firearms talk, without the politics.

Few Announcements:

  • Expecting again….
  • Where’s the precision rifle podcast?
  • FRN Insider!

Main Topic: Listener Feedback

Chauncey: When I saw your topic of the John Huang episode, I was less than enthusiastic.  I am not into AR-15s and more into older handguns, rifles, and shotguns.  However, when I listened, I was so impressed with John and again your confirmed my thesis that your show really is about entrepreneurship, culture building, and leadership and only incidentally about guns.  One of the best episodes.

Thank you and keep up the great work. Thanks also for the reference to Handgun Radio.  Ryan seems to have a great love and appreciation for older handguns.  He fills an important niche for those of use that are not tactically interested or oriented.

While do enjoy your podcast, I do miss the old format with the guys.  It was like family.

TJ Gauthier: Hey Jake, Just listened to this week’s Squib and thought you should share this with Zack. (Check for attachment) Battle Royale was a book written in ’96. Also, I thought Red 2 was great. It was just as good, or better than the first. Thanks for the network,

David Koenig: Hey Jake,

I don’t know if you heard about the deadly hit-and-run crash that, sadly, left one person dead and 11 injured out here in Venice Beach, CA. about a week ago.  Shortly afterward, a friend of mine put this “Automobile Control Legislation” together and while there’s plenty of tongue n’ cheek, it’s also a great way of putting much of the proposed gun control laws into perspective and I just had to send it to you.  Feel free to read on the air if you’d like.

In the wake of the horrible massacre that recently took place at the Venice Beach boardwalk, I am asking for an immediate emergency session of the state legislature to commence and establish new AUTOMOBILE CONTROL LEGISLATION.  This new legislation should establish laws which will assure Automobile Safety and Security (ASS) for all citizens of the great State of California.

A.       AUTOMOBILE FREE ZONES shall immediately be created near all schools, malls, parks, public building, theaters, libraries, sports venues, supermarkets, churches, restrooms, etc.  Any place where large groups of people might gather, automobiles should be restricted, prohibited and kept at a safe distance of no less than one mile.  Signs stating “This is an Auto Free Zone” should be posted every three feet in order to protect the public.

B.      Large capacity fuel cells and tanks shall be restricted to no more than one U.S. gallon.  All new vehicles being sold in the State of California must meet this new requirement.  Furthermore, all previously registered vehicles must be retrofitted with fuel tank restrictors to limit the amount of fuel the tank can hold.

C.       All new vehicles being sold in the State of California will be limited to no more than two cylinders.  This will significantly reduce the speed of the vehicles and increase the number of potential lives saved.

D.      All legal residents who wish to operate a motor vehicle will be required to be registered with the State, be tested, pay all applicable fees, show proof of insurance, become certified, submit to fingerprinting, provide a DNA sample, and pay more fees.  Of course, anyone not entering the state legally will not be bound by any of these requirements.

E.       In order to enforce these new measures the Bureau of Automobile Repair (BAR) will be restructured to include an additional 30,000 new law enforcement agents.  These agents will be charged with the duty of inspecting and approving the road worthiness of the vehicles.  Because of the extremely dangerous conditions these agents will be forced to work under, it has been determined that it will be in the best interest of the public, to arm these agents with both small and long arms and hollow point bullets.

AUTOMOBILE  SAFTY AND SECURITY (ASS) is everyone’s business.  Therefore the office of the State Attorney General is being asked to look into filing charges against all manufacturers (Toyota, Honda, Ford, GM, etc.) of such dangerous and diabolical instruments of destruction.  These so called “means of transportation” are a major cause of death and injury – even more so than firearms- in our State.  Additional cases will also be pursued against those who may at anytime, have sold the accused gasoline, made repairs to his vehicle, installed tires or provided him with directions.  Someone, if not the accused, must be held responsible.

Maintaining the health and welfare of our citizens forces us to also take action against those most irresponsible of vehicle owners:  current and former member of the armed forces, those associated with the Tea Party and other radical political groups such as the Republicans, Christians-especially Catholics, Jews, black conservatives, and any group that believes in a higher authority other than the state.  These reprobates will be placed on a watch list so that their dangerous actions can be monitored.  A National Data Register would be even more beneficial in monitoring the evil designs of all motor vehicle owners.

Recently, some even more disturbing information has come to light.  Upon inspection of the apartment of the Venice Beach Boardwalk murderer, copies of seditious and anti-American periodicals were found.  Issues of MotorTrend, Autoweek, and Car and Driver were discovered under the accused mattress.  Dirty magazines glamorizing and promoting the free use of automobiles meant for nothing more than the corruption of young minds.  We in the legislature are therefore asking that immediate action be taken to limit access to such materials by anyone if not completely ban them from distribution and ownership in our State.

With these, and any other measures not specifically mentioned in this bill, but that may in future be useful in the restriction and regulation of automobile use and ownership, we sincerely hope to accomplish our goals, whatever they may be.  Remember, “It’s for the children”.

Anonymous: (i live in NH – glad to see New England represented on the Handgun Radio podcast!)

Let me say i admire and applaud the stand you are taking to pay attention to the RIGHT things in your business first. I had my own business for several years as well, so i understand. In our modern big corporate culture this kind of thing is far too often given no attention. STICK TO IT, don’t give up! Aim high, if you miss you will still be much further than the people who never try or perhaps worse, those who try and lose heart. Surround yourself with positive people. Hire people with good attitude – skills you can train for later, but attitude seems to be the thing that is so very hard to find or instill in others.

I paid special attention to the QBQ book you mentioned and ordered a copy for myself – GOOD book. I had just finished a similar book, Leadership and Self-Deception, http://www.amazon.com/Leadership-Self-Deception-Getting-out-Box/dp/1576759776 The thing that stuck me was that the two complimented each other so well, QBQ filled in the ‘how’ that the other book was missing – but Leadership… covered the ‘why’ that QBQ never stopped to pick up.

i am very tempted to start ‘something’ myself on being positive and how to be a positive in the world around us.

Keep up the good work, keep the Faith.

James: Just listened to episode 080 “limit of five guns “and I gotta say Zak (skipped the “c” on purpose LOL)is way off on the shotgun becoming obsolete. It is the most versatile gun on the other guys lists. It can be firing Buck Shot, Bird Shot or Slug all in the same magazine fill. Whether it is the competition, home defense or hunting and even the ammo length of 2 3/4″ to 3 1/2″ help reduce recoil or reach out and touch something. But that is my thoughts and here are my 5 to 6 with minimum brand specification (not sponsored so no name unless needed)

1 .22 LR Pistol silenced for the quiet work.

2 .22 LR Rifle silenced for longer range quiet work.

3 IWI Tavor 5.56 NATO Canadian Legal hunting rifle depending on season and prey (Wow!).

4 Kel Tec RFB 7.62 NATO Canadian Legal hunting rifle depending on season and prey (Wow!).

5 Kel Tec KSG favorite (I can’t remember if it has screw in chokes or not)or any semi-auto 12 ga for 3-gun or hunting.

If you haven’t noticed, a proud Canadian trying to free us from occupation. Conceal or open carry and unrestriction of all barrel lengths would be nice for handguns and rifles. Also you guys probably can’t get them but Norinco has a 5.56 bullpup that is unrestricted long gun in Canada too!

Jeff Lehman: Hi Jake and guys! (Originally WIG feedback)

I was listening to the Episode 33 podcast today and you guys got to talking about one of my favorite topics, women and guns. I too find it funny how so many men have it in their heads that women can only shoot or carry a .38 Special or smaller. My fiance just started shooting on a regular basis back in April and she chooses to carry a .380 Auto because of size. But she also has a 9mm that she loves to shoot. I have a Springfield XD-45 and when we bought it, she wasn’t so sure about .45 acp and so it was with the intent of being one of “my guns”. Happy to say I “lost” my XD to her and she loves to shoot that pistol more than I do and she’s a great shot with it! Just gives me an excuse to get a 1911 for me which I know she hates ;)

Keep up the great work guys. Love the show and listen whenever I can!

Mark Hookom: Hi Guys,

You have talked to manufacturers, Sales and such about the ammo/gun shortages. You have talked about the increase in sales of guns, and increase in carry permits, but one thing that I think has been missed is the increase in the number of new shooters, return shooter that used to shoot years ago, women, families and children. I’ve seen a huge change in the numbers and segment of people who are shooting where I work and I’m going to try to research some numbers for you. I was wondering if people working at ranges across the country are seeing the same changes and increases I have.

Ricky Vogel: Have you guys seen or heard of this product? Is it even a real product?

I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts, ideas or reviews on this.

Adam: Hey, I have a question for the upcoming Glock episode. I know the S&W Sigma/SD is the red headed stepchild of the pistol world (maybe not – it’s not a Hi-Point) but I also know it is so close to the Glock design that S&W got sued by Glock. Maybe Zach could go through the pros and cons of the Sigma vs. the Glock.

Jay – Hey Jake and company. Found the network through Tactical Paradise about 2 months ago and I now listen to every show on the network except Top Shot and Big and Wild. Nothing against those shows, I just had to cut a couple of them due to lack of time.

I have bought and inherited a few handguns and rifles so far but I’m really interested in buying a Glock for everyday carry. I hear all kinds of hype about police trade-ins for $300 but the only ones I see online are typically $400 plus FFL fees. Might as well buy it new at that point. Is that typically the way they are purchased? Do police forces sell them straight from the station? Hope you can help me out.
