“I’m wondering how many of you have ever been in a real life emergency situation, and if you felt prepared for it when it hit?”

I had to do the Heimlich Maneuver on my son. First time it didn’t work second time the waffle flew from the dining room to the kitchen. Even though I am in healthcare it was frightening to be home alone with no assistance and my son was turning bluish/purple. Scary but prepared and handled the situation with a racing heart.
Our family has lived in NC & FL when BIG hurricanes like Floyd & Charlie (to name a few) went through and we lost some tree limbs and had to clean up afterwards but we came through it fine. We had what we needed and spent many hours helping others get things out of houses that were flooding or removing debree. We have even had a block party BBQ so that all the food in people’s freezers might not go to waste. Living without power for 15 days was interesting but you also learn what you really can do without!
Christmas. No stores open and I forgot to get the cream of chicken. Had some in food storage–yes! Serious emergency don’t know what we would have done without cheesy potatoes.
Earthquake, ice storm, hurricane, volcano. We were prepared. Water was the one thing that we had to stretch.
As a nurse, I always get through the emergency and shake afterwards and doubt myself when it is over.
Ice storm in 2008. Nope i wasn’t prepared. That is why i am now.
I have, when my husband lost his job we would have lost everything if we hadn’t been prepared for an emergency. We lived off our food storage and didn’t have any credit card debt. It might not seem to be an emergency to some of you but it really was to us.
