2nd Amendment Now Vulnerable the Same Treatment as Religious Freedom in Indiana

Indiana --(Ammoland.com)- Though the 2nd Amendment Patriots group is a gun rights oriented group there have been times over the past 16 years I would write about the importance of religion and the moral value as it relates to the Second Amendment.
And generally I would get at least one response telling me to keep to gun rights and stay away from social issues.
As most folks who keep up on the news are aware, Indiana has been hit by a cyclone over SB 101, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) that was signed into law on March 26th 2015. That measure was to protect citizens from having the government impose substantial burden on their religious beliefs if it has compelling interest.
The law became a nuclear explosion ignited by the [liberal] news media’s deliberate misrepresentation in their so called reporting. After some major national sports organizations and wealthy corporations flexed their muscle and waved millions of dollars in the face of Indiana government, there was a move to make a “fix”. The ink on the signature of the bill had barely dried before the law was up for a change. The one group in this tug of war that had very few in the fight was the churches.
Within 4 days the 103 Republican legislators in both the House and the Senate who had stood firmly together in passing the bill began a process to appeal to the opposition with a peace offering. After the smoke cleared there were 6 senators and I think 3 reps. that voted against a change.
Now, what does that have to do with gun rights? Well I’ll tell you.
Let’s say that instead of an issue over religion, the battle was about guns. Let’s say that the powerful voice of ball club organizations, racing and corporate money, such as it was in this affair, tells Indiana or a major city in Indiana that they will not do business here or bring in their conventions, ball games and other multimillion dollar events because they think there is too much gun violence or lack of gun restrictions.
Do you think that a legislative body of government would hold the line on defending Indiana’s firearm statues? Do you think that no one would suggest a little compromise by giving into a little “reasonable and common sense” gun restriction? After all it’s not like they’d be handing over all your gun rights, just enough to please the big money and those who would like complete gun control.
And would you think that like the churches in the issue of SB 101 there would be the same absence of gun owners who would get off their couches long enough to make a phone call or send a letter to join in the struggle to hold onto those liberties?
If you say no, I would recommend getting some help to snap out of your trance. I can tell you from firsthand experience as a state senator that in the past 5 years of passing some of the pro gun laws I’ve introduced it’s only been the same loyal and dependable few that have contributed.
Who’s to say that since what has happened in the RFRA encounter that those involved in making state government snap to attention won’t apply the exact same tactics to the Second Amendment.
Gun owners had better start displaying the same energy to helping those trying to protect their gun rights as they do when racing to the discount stores to buy that last box of ammo they think is going to be banned. We still have God and our guns, but do we have the guts?
