New Deer Stands Available to Disabled Hunters on Old Furnace Area in Delaware

Delaware -(Ammoland.com)- Two new deer stands with access stairs instead of ladders on Old Furnace Wildlife Area near Seaford are available for use by deer hunters with disabilities, DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife announced today.

The stands also feature wider dimensions and are placed along a level path close to an interior access road with handicap parking centrally located between the two stands.

“These new stands are part of the Division of Fish & Wildlife’s commitment to both promote hunting and make hunting areas accessible to all hunters regardless of their physical condition,” said Division of Fish & Wildlife Director David Saveikis. “Hunters with qualifying disabilities can park close to these stands and use a standard-sized set of stairs to gain a great vantage for hunting deer.”

Only hunters who have a disabled hunter permit are permitted to use these stands. Permit applications are available online at Hunters with Disabilities, or from DNREC’s Dover licensing desk in the Richardson & Robbins Building, 89 Kings Highway, Dover.

The new stands are located north of Fleetwood Pond Road behind a metal gate that is unlocked but must be kept closed during deer firearms seasons. For more information on the new stands, please contact Sussex County Regional Fish & Wildlife Manager Rob Gano at 302-539-3160 or 302-739-9912.

Deer stands for hunters with disabilities also are available at Nanticoke and Assawoman wildlife areas in Sussex County, as well as other wildlife areas in Kent and New Castle counties.
