Share Your Hunting and Fishing Pictures and Stories With Us

Henrico, VA -(AmmoLand.com)- View the gallery of photos of smiling young hunters and anglers with their prized gobblers or fish from the last couple of weeks of the spring season.
Send us your photos throughout the season and we will post a gallery with captions and stories each week to share with our readers. We’re especially looking for some good turkey hunting photos from youth, or novice hunters.
Congratulations to those who have taken the time and commitment to mentor a young or novice hunter – the dads and moms, uncles, aunts, grandparents, or friends for discovering the passion for the outdoors and providing this most important opportunity for developing new traditions, resulting in wonderful experiences and memories to last a lifetime.
Keep sending in great photos of smiling young hunters and anglers. Also, any unusual pictures or stories from any hunters are considered for posting on TOR BLOG. REMEMBER, the pictures need to be in good taste for posting—minimal blood, classic pose, etc. Our award-winning professional photographers offer a few tips on composition of your photos so as to capture the moment with a good photo—consider background, good light, watch for shadows or hats covering eyes and face, contrast, and have both young hunter and mentor in the photo, especially parents or grandparents, etc.
Any firearms pictured MUST be pointed in a safe direction.

Editor’s note… I got to go on a gobbler hunt Monday April 18th in Franklin County with a good friend and fellow outdoor blogger, Jeff Phillips who produces the hunting website STAR CITY WHITETAILS and provides hunting pictures and stories forThe Outdoor Report. The attraction to this website is hunters can send in their pics and videos of their hunts to share with other hunters. Jeff got his start with this site videoing his own hunts and posting them on the site. I was honored and thrilled to be the subject of his first video of another hunter harvesting a spring gobbler! The video is great and Jeff got all the gobbling, strutting and then my AMAZING kill shot at 40 yards thru an opening in a grapevine thicket after getting the wary gobbler to stop and gobble to my natural mouth call!! The gobbler had a 9 inch beard and 1 ¼ inch spurs weighed 20+ lbs. Here’s the video link — it starts with a commentary on the hunt and a dedication to one of my best friends and hunting buddies – Normand McLaughlin who passed away back in March… Normand had fixed me up with the special choke, pro-diamond pattern scope and 3 inch magnum #5 shells for my NWTF Emblem /camo Winchester 12 guage that made for a true shot and a trophy gobbler. Norm would have loved this hunt- he was certainly there in spirit… it was a classic hunt with all the gobblin’, struttin’ and excitement you could ask for… enjoy the video and story! I sure did! Gary Justus, 12 years old, from Tannersville, VA ( Tazewell County) called in two nice gobblers opening morning April 2 while hunting on his uncle’s farm in Tannersville, Va. Gary has been practicing his turkey calling in the car on his ride to school and back. The gobblers put on quite a show pouncing on the inflatable decoy and deflating it before Gary chose the one to shoot. Gary was hunting with his grandparents Ronnie & Donna Justus. Aiden Coleman, 10-years-old of Chase City, killed his first gobbler with a single shot .20 gauge on Youth and Apprentice Spring Turkey Hunting Day April 2 in Mecklenburg County. Aiden was hunting for his very first time ever under the supervision of his grandfather Chuck Tillotson of Clarksville. The gobbler weighed 20 lbs 14.4 oz. and had 1-inch spurs on both its heels. A rarity, were the gobbler’s triple beards which measured 9 inches, 7 inches, and 6 inches respectively, for a combined total beard length of 22 inches. Using the NWTF scoring calculator, 84.875 is the gobbler’s total score. The gobbler is considered atypical as less than 10% of all gobblers have multiple beards, most commonly, only two.
Chuck Tillotson said, “I’ve been hunting my entire life in Mecklenburg County and only seen a double beard once.”
Having spent two years hunting it to no avail, his grandson’s first gobbler being a triple beard was not only surprising, but all the more memorable an experience. Aiden is the son of Christopher Coleman and Tammy Tillotson of Chase City.
