Sandrini Receives NWTF National Conservation Award

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -(Ammoland.com)- Joe Sandrini, biologist with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, earned a national award for his diligent work with wild turkeys.
In recognition of his dedication and contributions to conservation, Joe received the National Wild Turkey Federation’s prestigious Henry S. Mosby Award. He accepted the award during the NWTF’s 41st annual Convention and Sport Show in Nashville.
The Mosby award is named for Henry S. Mosby, Ph.D., whose research during the mid-1900s set the standard for wild turkey management. He also helped found The Wildlife Society and won its highest honor, the Aldo Leopold Medal.
The NWTF determined this year’s award winners based on how their work strengthens the Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt. initiative.
Sandrini began his career with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department in 1992 and continues to work in the Newcastle region, where he is now a wildlife biologist. He has helped develop wildlife management recommendations, collected wild turkey brood data and was influential in developing the four-year Wyoming/South Dakota Black Hills Gobbler Mortality study.
From teaching graduate students in the field to working with hunters and local landowners, Sandrini always looks for ways to support the wild turkey.
“Joe and biologists like him are the boots on the ground aspect of research for wild turkeys and other upland animals,” said George Thornton, NWTF CEO. “His outstanding work will benefit wild turkeys for generations to come.”
