WABBASEKA, Ark. -(Ammoland.com)- Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Sgt. Troy Faughn and Arkansas State Police Sgt. Brad Spurlin came together with Boy Scout Troop 391 to clean up George H. Dunklin Jr. Bayou Meto Wildlife Management Area last weekend.

Together, they removed more than 36 large bags of trash from the roads, campsites and boat launching areas at the Vallier Access areas of the popular WMA.

One unfortunate side-effect of having world-famous duck hunting in the flooded bottomland hardwoods of Bayou Meto is the accumulation of litter during the season.

A soda bottle here, and a cigarette butt there add up quickly during the 60 days all eyes are focused on the excitement of duck hunting.

“While talking about the issue with Sgt. Spurlin, he offered a pretty good solution,” said Faughn. “We contacted Andy Tubb, a local scout master, to see if he’d be interested in partnering with us for a cleanup to help keep Bayou Meto clean.”

Tubb brought 10 scouts from Boy Scout Troop 391, as well as Assistant Scout Master Raymond Jones, David Scoggins, Chad Breedin and Brian Storz from White Hall.

“We are extremely thankful for the help in keeping our state’s resources clean,” said Faughn. “All of the young men involved showed great moral character and helped make a difference.”

People interested in volunteering for future cleanup efforts are welcome to contact their local AGFC regional office and ask to speak to an enforcement officer or wildlife area manager over the WMA they wish to help.

A list of regional office phone numbers is available on their website.
