FPC Applauds President Trump for Approving H.J.R. 40 Due Process Restoration

SACRAMENTO, CA –-(Ammoland.com)- In response to President Donald J. Trump’s approval of House Joint Resolution 40 (H.J.R 40), Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) Legislative Advocate and Spokesperson Craig DeLuz has issued the following statement:
“We are grateful to President Trump for signing House Joint Resolution 40 today, which nullifies the Social Security Administration’s unconstitutional rule promulgated by the Social Security Administration relating to implementation of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Improvement Amendments Act of 2007.
We proudly joined with our colleagues in the mental health, civil rights, and disability rights communities, including the National Rifle Association (NRA), American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and others, in support of this important legislation to overturn an eleventh-hour Obama administration rule that would have deprived Americans of their Second Amendment rights, without due process, in a retroactive and wholesale sweep of persons who were receiving benefits and entitlements.
Indeed, the prior administration’s rule would have stigmatized hundreds of thousands of Americans based on their benefits. H.J.R. 40 appropriately reverses an awful rule which shifted the burden of proof from the government to the individual in order for an otherwise law-abiding person to access a fundamental enumerated right.
Thousands of FPC’s members and supporters asked President Trump to restore due process for millions of Americans by signing H.J.R. 40 and today, he has done just that. We thank President Trump, H.J.R 40’s sponsor, Representative Sam Johnson (R – TX), and the 120 co-sponsors of this common-sense legislation to restore civil rights for their leadership and hard work on this issue.”
