25 Years Without the Fairness Doctrine

August 4th was the 25th anniversary of the repeal of the “Fairness Doctrine”, an incredible win for free speech in America. Unfortunately I just came across this video today, but I suppose it’s better late than never.
During the 2008 election cycle there was a lot of fear mongering by the right about how Obama would bring the Fairness Doctrine back. Luckily, 4 years into his presidency no such action has been taken. Regardless of this fact, it is still important to celebrate the fact that this legislation was repealed, and continue to remind the public of how much of a threat to free speech any proposed new Fairness Doctrine would be.
