Everything went according to plan at last weekend’s DUI Checkpoint in Norwalk, reports the Los Cerritos News. Drunk and drugged drivers were arrested, unlicensed drivers were ticketed, and cars were impounded and towed.
In other words, the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is working, right?

Let’s look at the numbers for the Norwalk’s August 25th checkpoint:
If the point of the checkpoint is to catch impaired drivers, that’s five out of 2,590. That is a 0.19% success rate.
Still, we can’t be too short-sighted. Checkpoints are lauded for their deterrant effect, not their actual arrest numbers.
In any case, don’t be like the Norwalk Five. Here are the Riverside checkpoints for the weekend, courtesy of @CheckpointsDUI. Get a sober driver.

It’s not about catching drunk drivers, it’s about acclimating citizens to a surveillance society. It’s about making you feel “comfortable” having your right to be “presumed innocent until proven guilty” taken from you.
The permanent TSA checkpoints are coming and, soon, everyone will be either employed by the TSA or presumed guilty.
