Part of the sentence for a DUI conviction in Arizona may involve having your license taken. So when everything is settled, you may need to have your license restored.
Once the suspension or revocation period ends following a DUI, your license won’t automatically come back. That means you can’t just get back behind the wheel without taking some extra steps. If you do, you’ll be in even bigger trouble for driving without a valid license.
However, by following some simple steps, it is relatively easy to get your license back.

The first thing you need to do is figure out if your license was suspended or revoked since the process and fees differ slightly. If it’s a first offense and your blood alcohol level was fairly low, it’s possible your license was only suspended. But if you’ve been convicted before, were well over the legal limit, or someone was injured as a result of your DUI, your license was probably revoked.
After figuring out if your license was revoked or suspended, you need to wait out the time period of the suspension or revocation. You can only start the process of getting your license back after that point.
If your license was suspended, you have to file an application to have it reinstated and pay the application fee plus an additional reinstatement fee. You also need to show proof of ability to cover future accidents, generally with car insurance. The form you need in Arizona is SR-22 and your insurance company should be able to give it to you if you request it.
If your license has been revoked, you need to request an investigation packet by calling the Arizona Department of Transportation. After the investigation is complete, you’ll get a Permission to Apply form. From there you fill out the application, pay the fee, and provide the SR-22, either in person or online. At the end of that, you should have your license back.
