Abrams Garfinkel Margolis Bergson, LLP (AGMB) has announced that Weiss Law Group, PLLC in Manhattan,headed by Mira B. Weiss, has joined the firm as Counsel.
Weiss Law Group, PLLC concentrates its practice in elder law, guardianships, trusts and estates. This includes assisting clients with asset protection, filing or challenging Petitions of Guardianships and trusts and estates, creating wills, designating Powers of Attorney, estate administration and probate. The firm’s other practice areas include health law and insurance advocacy, Medicaid and Medicare matters, patient advocacy and special needs law.
Ms. Weiss has more than 30 years of legal experience in the field of healthcare. She began serving as an Associate Attorney to the New York Health and Hospitals Corporation before becoming the first in-house Counsel to Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital (now known as New York – Presbyterian University of Columbia and Cornell) and Deputy Executive Director of Bellevue Hospital Center.
She later joined Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey as its first attorney with medical experience and she worked for Horizon’s managed care subsidiary and, later, Horizon HMO of Pennsylvania. She also formed her own consulting and risk management software development firm, Integrated Compliance Management, PLLC, and later became Vice President and General Counsel of Touchstone Insurance, a Medicare managed care insurance company.
Ms. Weiss is admitted to practice in New York State and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association as Chair of the Elder Law Section and the Trust and Estate Law Section; the Association of the Bar of the City of New York as Chair of the Legal Problems of the Aging Committee and the Small Law Firm Committee; the American Health Lawyers Association as Chair of the Long Term Care Committee; Orion Resources Group; the Wealth Preservation Alliance; the Braintrust Group; and the Master Class for Best Business Practices.
In 1976, she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Theatre from Temple University and, in 1981, she received her Juris Doctor from George Washington University, National Law Center.
Ms. Weiss says she takes a family approach with her clients, which has enabled her to establish long-term relationships. “I look at my clients as an extension of my family,” she says. “I always tell them, ‘You take care of your loved ones, I will take care of the paperwork.’ I always believe that our clients should be treated in a personal and respectful manner.”
