(Before It's News)

While San Diego is one of the loveliest cities in the United States, it is also one that poses a lot of risk when it comes to auto accidents. While not as dangerous as Los Angeles by any means, you can literally take your life in your hands when you get in a vehicle to drive in and around this amazingly beautiful Southern California city. Some accidents may not be your fault and if you are injured you will certainly want to contact a San Diego attorney, however, by being aware of the five most common auto accidents, perhaps it’s easier just to try to avoid them in the first place!

1) Spin out on Wet Roads

One fact that amazes most people is that the greatest number of automobile accidents in San Diego occur within moments after a rain storm, of which this Southern California city has more than its fair share. There are periods of extremely dry conditions followed by a downpour of torrential rains, the combination of which can be lethal. In dry conditions oil soaks into the black top and when the rain comes, oil slicks make the roads a major, oily hazard.

2) Head on Collision / Lane Departure

Lane departure and head on collisions go hand in hand. Once a vehicle has departed its lane, chances are a car coming in the opposite direction would have nowhere to go. These are often lethal on fast moving freeways like I-5 because of the high rate of speed at which vehicles are traveling. Always be aware of traffic around you because it is the other vehicle you need to watch for.

3) Front Fender Accidents at Intersections

One of the things which many people love about San Diego is the real estate. This SoCal city has some of the loveliest and most expensive real estate in the country. Because home and business owners work diligently to keep their city as amazingly beautiful as it is, tourists are often oohing and ahhing at the sights all around them. Unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle isn’t paying attention to that stop sign ahead and many accidents happen as a result of front fender accidents when one driver runs a stop sign after the other car to the right or left begins to go.

4) Rear End Collisions

Again, because there is so much loveliness all around, many drivers aren’t paying attention to where they are going. Rear end collisions are more common in San Diego than in other cities for the very same reason as there are so many front fender accidents. You can’t pay attention to your driving and the landscaping all around you at the very same time. A word of caution is in order here. Take turns driving so you can safely look at the beautiful homes when it’s your turn to be the passenger!

5) Hood under Collisions / Front End Collisions

Both rain and scenery are responsible for the huge number of hood under collisions in San Diego. When the roads are slick and you are traveling at a high rate of speed, it’s almost impossible to stop quickly. With a semi driving just in front of you, should you need to slow down quickly, your car will probably hydroplane right under that rig. Slow down on wet roads and always keep several car lengths between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Knowing that these are the most common kinds of accidents may save your life and the lives of those in your vehicle and other vehicles on the road. Whether you are at fault or the other driver is at fault, it is always better to be safe than sorry.
