Carnaval weekend is coming up and Monday and Tuesday will be national holidays so many things will be closed and many people will leave the city for a couple of days to freshen up by the beach, while all around the city festive murgas, colorful street percussion dances, will take place.
To celebrate in Buenos Aires, be on the lookout for people on stilts and shiny satin dancing to the rhythm of big drums in the city neighborhoods (find an agenda of parades here), and if you want to dance yourself, head to the Bomba del Tiempo’s Carnaval party on Monday at 6.30pm in Centro Cultural Konex. Make sure to stop by a costume and party store before stock up on Carnaval foam and water balloons if you’re up for it too.
Otherwise, some great Carnaval destinations include Gualeguaychú in Entre Ríos, the Northern provinces of Argentina, and Uruguay, all of which carry out much more elaborate festivities for the occasion.
Se acerca el fin de semana de carnaval y el lunes y martes serán feriados por lo que varios lugares estarán cerrados y mucha gente se irá por algunos días a refrescarse en la costa mientras que en la ciudad se festeja con murgas coloridas en las calles.
Para disfrutar del carnaval en Buenos Aires, recomendamos estar atentos a grupos de gente en zancos y disfrazados con satén bailando al ritmo de grandes tambores en las calles de los barrios (puede encontrar una agenda completa de murgas aquí). En el caso de querer bailar, la Bomba del Tiempo celebra el carnaval el lunes en el Centro Cultural Konex. No olvide pasar por un negocio de cotillón para comprar espuma y bombitas de agua que también forman parte del festejo.
