Even if you aren’t from Ireland, there are lucky things to do on St Patrick’s Day. And no, you don’t have to go search for a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow!
Here are some Lucky Things to Do on St. Patrick’s day to try to bring about some good fortune on March 17.
Bring Along A Cinnamon Stick
While not a common tradition in American, this is actually well known in Ireland. Simply place a cinnamon stick in your wallet to bring about prosperity. Even though it might seem weird, if it doesn’t work at least it will make your wallet smell good.
Finding A Four-Leaf Clover
The shamrock represents the Trinity as St. Patrick used it to explain Christianity. Finding a four-leaf clover is supposed to bring about good luck. It might not be as easy to find one as you think though as your chance of finding a four-leaf clover are about 1 in 10,000.
Burning Sage
Burning Sage supposedly wards off evil spirits. For best results, you can burn the plant in a process called smudging. Doing so will get rid of any negative energy that might be around you on St. Patrick’s Day.
Wear Green
One of the most popular traditions for people to do on St. Patrick’s Day is to wear green. This tradition started as many thought that wearing green would make them invisible to leprechauns. Those who didn’t wear green would supposedly get pinched by these mythical creatures. People would pinch individuals that didn’t wear green to remind them that a leprechaun would pinch them if they didn’t put on some form of green attire.
Putting Up A Horseshoe
You can bring about some good luck this St. Patrick’s Day by putting up a horseshoe in your house. There are differing opinions as to whether you should hang them upside down or right side up. Some believe that you should point the ends up to make it easier to collect good luck. Others believe that the horseshoe should be face down, so those that those who pass it will have good luck poured upon them.
Saying An Irish Blessing
If you don’t want to burn sage, wear green, hang a horseshoe, deal with cinnamon sticks in your wallet or go on a four-leaf clover scavenger hunt, you can bring about a little good luck by saying an Irish blessing. Here’s a common blessing:
“May St. Patrick guard you wherever you go, and guide you in whatever you do–and may his loving protection be a blessing to you always.”
