Tons of blogs focus on places you should go on vacation and the best places to travel, but did you know that there are actually some destinations you should avoid? Throughout the world there are some places that are full of crime and just not safe for tourists to visit. When you are planning your next vacation, steer clear of the following places.
Ciudad Juarez, Mexico
A lot of crime happens here, including many murders. This city is actually considered to be one of the drug and murder capitals of the world. There’s also a lot of poverty around and the locals really struggle to try to survive in this place.
Pyongyang, North Korea
The entire country of North Korea should be avoided. They aren’t friendly to outsiders coming to visit and the country is heavy regulated and controlled by their government. You have to watch every step you take and if they don’t like something you do, you can be forced into a hard labor camp. While there are tours available in this country, they aren’t worth the consequences that may come out of saying the wrong thing to your tour guide.
Baghdad, Iraq
It’s not surprising that this city should be avoided. It’s filled with numerous violent acts including bombings, gunfire and killings. It’s been on the “do not travel” list for Americans for a number of years because of the dangerous conditions.
Harare, Zimbabwe
This city is full of government corruption. It’s extremely impoverished and it’s visible throughout the city. Many residents are trying to get out of the area and the local currency is not worth even a penny. Because of the desperate state of the place, there isn’t a whole lot to do here either.
San Pedro Sula, Honduras
This is an extremely dangerous place to visit. It’s considered to have the highest homicide rate in the world and that doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon. Illegal firearms are common throughout the country as arms trafficking is huge.
While there are many safe places to visit throughout the world, there are some destinations that are not even safe for locals, let alone tourists. While unfortunate things may happen while on vacation, even at destinations considered safe, it’s best to not go to visit a destination that is known to have high crime rates. Doing so may put you and your family in harm’s way.
Oymayakon, Russia
Weather is the detterent in this destination. Temperatures often go triple digits below zero in this region of Siberia.
Ukraine
Although a beautiful place to visit, the State Department has warned against travel to Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk. There is too much political unrest in this region that have left hundreds injured and many dead.
Mongadishu, Somalia
This has been named the most dangerous city on earth by the U.S. State Department. Not only have they had a civil war for years, but terrorist organizations are making this area their base.
