The Nigerian man charged with attempting in late 2009 to destroy a U.S.-bound passenger aircraft with an explosive device secreted in his underpants is scheduled to face trial in October, Reuters reported today (see GSN, Sept. 10, 2010).
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 24, could face life in prison if convicted of the eight charges filed against him, which include attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction and conspiracy to commit an act of terrorism. Not guilty pleas have been filed on his behalf for all charges.
Trial is to begin on October 4, according to a U.S. judge.
