In reply to our new campaign “Tell the TSA: No More Patdowns for Kids!” a few folks have told me, “But nobody should have to get molested by the TSA!”
Of course, I agree 100%! But we’ve been cranking away on that campaign for 6 months and, while we have achieved some notable successes, it’s not fresh anymore. Einstein said insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Let’s mix things up. Let’s hit them about disabled people, one month, everybody the next, kids the next. Let’s target Disneyland one week, cruise ships the next, Congress the next and follow that up with an airline-specific campaign the next.
If you’re a boxer, you don’t expect to win by constantly throwing the same punch over and over again. If you want to get home from work, you don’t expect to drive the exact same speed the whole time.
We have to keep John Pistole, Janet Napolitano, Barack Obama and other TSA stalwarts guessing. We have to try new things all the time until we exhaust them. When cracks open in the wall, we exploit them. And we do all of this in the service of the larger goal.
Have you noticed that the TSA supporters all fall back on fear to support their case. The bogeymen can attack at any moment! Fear is primal. You know what else is primal? Your kids. We’re programmed to protect them. We won’t assuage everyone’s fear with reason, but if there is something more important, immediate and concrete to fear – like the traumatization of your kids – then we can replace one fear with another.
So please sign the petition. Use a fake address if you like. But sign it and pass it along to your friends. We need 100,000 signatures.
