Parents whose children attend Timber Ridge Middle School in Plainfield, Illinois are not happy about an 8th-grade vocabulary quiz that appears to have more to do with the teacher’s political views than the king’s English. According to the Plainfield Patch, a student’s mother posted a photo of the quiz on Facebook, sparking considerable anger throughout social media.

“This is unacceptable to put her views into our children’s head no matter what her side is,” wrote mom Rebecca Gomez. “I am one unhappy parent!”

The quiz contained a fill-in-the-blank section where students were asked to choose the right vocabulary word to complete each statement. The problem? Well, look at the questions and see for yourself:

There is great (blank) among Americans, especially those who are strong supporters of President Trump and those who are against him.

The President of the United States (blank) accused the media of covering up terrorist attacks in European countries.

I have (blank) to seek out non-biased news so that I am a well-educated and informed citizen.

It was difficult for me to (blank) my feelings when I learned that Donald J. Trump had been voted in as our 45th President.

After reading about President Trump’s immigration ban, I did not realize how (blank) the law can be.

It’s difficult to tell from the Facebook post what the right answers are; clearly, though, they’re intended to reflect negatively on Donald Trump. For example, we’re not 100% sure what’s supposed to go in that last (blank), but we know it’s not “awesome.” In fact, the student may have actually gotten that one right – she wrote “radical” in the blank.

According to The Patch, the students were given the test a few weeks ago but just got it back on Wednesday:

“I was just mortified,” Gomez said. “I was shocked when I actually saw the questions — I couldn’t believe that a teacher would write those questions.”

Gomez said she met Friday with Director of Administration and Personnel Jennifer Orlos and Timber Ridge Principal Dean Kariotakis and was told administrators have already spoken with the teacher about the quiz.

“We’re not looking to get her fired or anything,” Gomez said, adding, “I wanted to get this out there because this kind of stuff is not appropriate for school.”

The paper spoke with a school district official named Tom Hernandez who said they were “aware of the quiz.”

“We are conducting an inquiry and review of the matter and if warranted, will take appropriate disciplinary action.” Hernandez said.
