On The Verge Of An All Out War? Massive Military Build-Up In The Persian Gulf

Global Research, July 16, 2012

The familiar menace of U.S. war drums have resumed at a fevered pitch, as Iran finds itself once again firmly within the Pentagon’s cross hairs.

According to multiple reports, the U.S. is currently in the midst of a massive military build-up in the Persian Gulf on a scale not seen in the region since prior to the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq. The military surge reportedly includes an influx of air and naval forces, ground troops, and even sea drones. Lest one forgets, the U.S. already has two aircraft carriers and their accompanying striker groups in the region.Continued below.

A growing sense of Iran war fever can also be seen mounting in Washington. For instance, in an effort to foil ongoing nuclear negotiations between Iran and the so-called P5+1 (the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council plus Germany), a bipartisan group of 44 U.S. Senators recently sent a letter to President Obama urging the administration to “focus on significantly increasing the pressure on the Iranian government through sanctions and making clear that a credible military option exists.”

Such hawkish posturing occurs despite the fact that the U.S. intelligence community (as well as the Israeli intelligence community, for that matter) finds no evidence that Iran has decided to pursue a nuclear weapon–the ostensible reason behind Western sanctions and threats of attack. Moreover, as an April Pentagon report states, Iran’s military doctrine remains one of self-defense, committed to “slow an invasion” and “force a diplomatic solution to hostilities.” (Compare this to the U.S. military doctrine rife with notions of global “power projection” and one sees where the credible threat lies.)

The nuclear issue, though, is but a pretext used to veil U.S. imperial designs in the region. As a senior U.S. Defense Department official recently let slip to the New York Times: “This is not only about Iranian nuclear ambitions, but about Iran’s regional hegemonic ambitions.” In other words, it is about removing one of the last irritants to U.S. power projection in the resource-rich Middle East.

Of course, Iran already finds itself under siege from a lethal trifecta comprised of U.S.-led cyber attacks, Israeli-led assassinations, and oppressive Western economic sanctions. The latter of which has left ordinary Iranians to confront a toxic mix of ballooning inflation and rampant unemployment. In short, as Conn Hallinan writes at CounterPunch, the West is “already at war with Iran.”

The question, then, is just how far this "war by other means" shall ultimately escalate?

  • These people get confused when they say Iran is not building (assembling) a bomb vs pursue of a nuclear weapon.

Iran would not be testing them in North Korea, if they were not intended in having atomic weapons.

Every one wants to play word games to fool us.

  • I’m sure Iran appreciates us sticking all of our ships in one confined space.

Interesting perspective. One bomb could cripple a major portion of our Navy.

  • All of you loosen up….The US is the Aggressor.Always has been since the Zionists took Control(creation of the Federal Reserve),always will be, unless stopped. This does not mean its Citizens but the Zionists that use American Souls to remove any threats to their false Economy or potential thread to their stolen land of Israel all done under false Flag pretenses.
And you know what they believe in the same religious doctrine as the Muslims killing goy’s is condoned.READ the TALMUD before you come back with your derogatory comment. This is not B.S. the TALMUD is real as is the Christian Bible that teaches Love not War.

  • Iran testing weapons in North Korea? Where did that come from? People need to cut out the crap disinformation and do a bit of research here. They need to ask questions like: why did the CIA, MI6 and Mossad set up SAVAK for the Shah of Iran in the 1950/60s. SAVAK was one of the most brutal secret police services the world has ever seen. How many Americans have ever heard of it?

  • Iraqs weapons of mass destruction are still missing,or non existant, same ole song, its worked in the past guess it will work agian

Come on,where did the Israelis test their Nukes?
They just purchased them by giving back the money that came from the Federal Reserve i.e. the U/S. Citizen in the first Place.
Who is to say that Iran can’t buy them from their Friends?
Why would I bother taking the Risks of Development and by chance getting caught by Nato. You guys have to smarten up. The Jews are the ones that think Iran is developing Nukes, the same old story like Bush talked about Weapons of Mass Destruction, if so where were they?
More likely that the Zionists already sold Iran Nukes since they only care about the Money. Same as the U.S.Zionists sold Warfare Chemicals to Iraq, which still remain to be found.
As far as the Nukes are concerned Do they need to test a proven Device?, Hell no.

No One is perfect again my apologies to mmkkpro

  • We must destroy all Zionists. They are THE murderers, liars and thieves. There is coming a time soon when no Zionist will be able to openly reveal themselves or they will be put down like the evil creatures that they are.

It does not matter if they hold political office, work as a government functionary or hide their high treason behind religion.

  • I can understand evil. I can deal with evil.

But I cannot understand or deal with stupidity. Our government did exactly the same thing the last time in Iraq. Where are the weapons of mass deception? And yet, there are people that are either morons or paid up traitors that like parrots continue to spread lies.

Iran have not attacked any country in hundreds of years. The same cannot be said for Israel, nor for the USA. The military industry complex only purpose is to create wars so that the weapons are sold. No wars, no need to replace the weapons. No need to replace weapons, no ridiculously inflated markup.

Instead of going and attack the military. Those attacked by the USA should seek and assassinate those behind the weapons companies (including investors).

This people do not put their own skin in the line. And until that happen, nothing will change. If they associate wars with a high probability of getting killed themselves, they wouldn’t push wars, would it?

As for our rogue government. The solution is simple. Do not comply on anything the government wants you do to. Including paying taxes. The moment the federal government stopped following the constitution, the moment the federal government ceased to be a legitimate one. Each dollar you pay in federal taxes goes to do things you do not agree with. Pay your state taxes, but do not pay the federal ones.

  • north Korea already has nukes wtf

  • The only build up is in your colon, sir.

  • Israel developed its nukes with the participation of South Africa.

They tested the weapons (tactical – ie quite small) somewhere in the Indian Ocean (I think – If memory serves).

Israel’s nuclear secrets were revealed to the world by a guy called Mordechai Vanunu – who served 18 years in prison for his pains.

Israel has never signed the non-proliferation treaty.

Contrast this with the fact that every US Intelligence Estimate (which are put together by 14 different US intelligence agencies) published since 2000 has stated that Iran DOES NOT have a nuclear weapons program.
