HMS VIGILANT launches Trident II skywards in an awesome display of military strength of British Forces.

This has been called a test, but im pretty sure its sabre rattling.

The unarmed Trident II was blasted skywards by the nuke-powered submarine HMS Vigilant in the Atlantic.

It was Britain’s first ballistic missile launch in three years — and sends a strong message to rogue nations like Argentina and Iran.

Details of the test came as Defence Secretary Philip Hammond announced £350million funds for the Navy’s next generation of nuclear-armed subs.

He said: “Our continuous submarine-based nuclear deterrent is the ultimate safeguard of our national security.

Booting the Navy out would cost at least 6,500 jobs. And some MPs warn it would force Britain into nuclear disarmament.

By 2017 all Royal Navy subs, not just guided missile craft, will be based at Faslane.

HMS Vigilant is one of four Vanguard Class submarines which carry Britain’s nuclear weapons.
