Russia denies any direct military involvement in the war in eastern Ukraine, but I doubt many people actually believe that line unless they’re die-hard fans of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The above video by The Guardian shows how blogger and citizen journalist Eliot Higgins – aka Brown Moses – compiled evidence to show that Russian military were firing rockets into Ukraine during the summer of 2014.
To do that Higgins used Google Earth, crater analysis techniques and online social media videos to determine where the artillery attacks originated.
He also concludes that it appears that these rocket attacks were done in a coordinated fashion to support pro-Moscow rebels gain territory against Ukrainian forces.
The Situation Now in Ukraine
As a way of an update, both sides have accused the other of violating the Minsk ceasefire agreement that was put in place a week ago. There are very real concerns now that the ceasefire has failed.
“Today, we have to face the reality that almost one week later there have been more than 300 violations of the ceasefire. People are still dying,” the President of the European Council Donald Tusk said in a statement.
Meanwhile the Kiev government says pro-Moscow rebels are building up forces and weapons in Ukraine’s southeast. On Friday Kiev also accused:
Russia of sending in more tanks and troops into eastern Ukraine.
Today there was a bomb attack on a peace march that killed at least two people and wounded 10 in the Ukraine’s second largest city, Kharkiv. The rally was being held to mark a year since the Kiev uprising that brought on the fall of pro-Moscow leader Viktor Yanukovych.
Footage below shows the scene after the bombing.
