The Movie: “The Lords of Dicipline,” brought back old memories!

Back when I was in the U.S. Navy in 1985 to 1988. I got involved in a situation on board my ship in a stand-off against the senior shipmates all the way up to and including the Captain of the ship. Captain Woodall and Lt. Commander Berry. The movie “The Lords of Discipline!” Brought b…ack memories of what happened to myself in service for my country.

“The reason why this story got rekindled is because I was watching with my wife this movie last night called:”

**THE LORDS OF DISCIPLINE!**

Back when I was in the U.S. Navy 1985 to 1988.
I got involved in a situation on board my ship in a stand-off against the senior shipmates all the way up to and including the Captain of the ship. Captain Woodall and Commander Berry. The movie “The Lords of Discipline!” Brought back memories of what happened to myself in service to my country.

I was flown from Sicily, Italy to my ship out to the Mediterranean Sea, to my NEW Command the USS. King DDG-41 Where, I was then lowered from a tether-line onto the ship by helicopter! I met with my crew and my new Captain for the very first time…

My Captain was a war Captain someone not to be reckoned with according to rumor? He crossed “The Line of Death!” with me over to Libya drawn by, Muammar Gaddafi – the leader of Libya at the time. My Captain, a BRONZE STAR recipient got me awarded my first (war medal:) The, NAVY EXPEDITIONARY MEDAL! With both prides on the line my Captain, as well as mine? Things started to happen aboard my ship! I was the new recruit and my command wanted that understood.

The first shipmate out of nowhere, asked what, I would do if he wanted to wrestle me? I said,” I would take you down and pin you!” And that would be that? So, the shipmate wrestled with me he got pined and was distraught and offended. Soon there followed ,more shipmates trying to take it to me… Being eliminated 1 by 1, soon turned into 2 and 3 on just me fighting these shipmates!

Now, there’s a bit of a war going on between myself and the other shipmates. Being caught off guard the entire division, I was in got me and tied me up to a post! They did not ever come back to untie me…They left me there.

I fought, to break the duck tap?? I yanked so hard at the ankles to free my feet my ankles and knees hurt fighting to be free! Then, I would rotate my walk to free and break the tape around my wrist. Finally, I was free! I told my mess cook, supervisor what happened. He said, “we can’t let that stand!” So, we came up with a plain and got even with the division and the Chief and Captain had to bring all their bedding topside to the deck from the compartment. Now, the Chief and the Captain are starring at me intensely?

Later that day we pulled into port! I was really upset by what happened! I got overly, drunk!! It was late and I “threw-up” all over the shipmates racks! Oh?? Shit!! I went to hide so, I could not be caught by, authority as drunk and disorderly! The Captain and Commander Berry? Wanted me so bad to bust me, they searched the ship all night till early morning? The Captain and the Commander looked stupid in front of the crew they could not find me?

Since they didn’t have me drunk at the time they couldn’t bust me? They declared me missing possibly man overboard.

So, the grudge match continued between me and the shipmates and the Captain and the Commander XO!

Then a bit of luck in my favor! We pulled into Gibraltar and the ship caught on fire! I was 1 of few to save the crew below who where going to burn to death and die.. I ran to get a “pneumatic blower” to get the crew out, the equipment was heavy it hurt my back and legs were aching.

So, I thought, saving these “poor bastards” was going to buy me some, time!

Next stop!
Norfolk, VA.

The new recruits who were to be stationed on our ship. Seen a problem “stand-off” between me and the other shipmates. It was time to see where they stood in the stand-off? And this really (big guy) can’t remember his name?? Decided to stand with me and that changed the control of the stand-off… I now, had control of the ship! Now, the Chief and the Crew are concerned of the switch in power!

Within, a few days in-port, my ACL – legitimate tore and I was in need of knee surgery!?! Not so fast, my Captain and his XO, didn’t want to release me to medical help? So, the Captain kept me onboard ship denying me proper medical? The Captain and his XO were not done with me. So, I snuck off ship for medical help. The Shore Medical Group said, ” your Captain and XO are going to be written up for medical neglect!”

Now, I’m off the ship. And I worry for the guy who stood with me in the stand-off?? Months later they said “he disappeared and left his command?” Nobody heard from him again?

Now here’s the thing., The Captain and The XO, live to this day in the area there in Norfolk, VA! I wonder if, they physically did something to this shipmate who, sided with me?? They obviously know the area and did they decide to stay living there incase the body of this missing sailor comes back to haunt them??

I owed this story, to be known about because he sided with me and probably saved me from disappearing myself? I hope, he’s safe somewhere? But according to the movie? I saw last night?? The Lords of Discipline, he is either imprisoned for desertion or dead and buried by; “The Captain and his XO?”

I wonder, from time to time what really happened to this shipmate! He took the sacrifice for me to go on….
