‘America’s NSA intelligence service allegedly targeted the European Union with its spying activities. According to SPIEGEL information, the US placed bugs in the EU representation in Washington and infiltrated its computer network. Cyber attacks were also perpetrated against Brussels in New York and Washington.‘ – Spiegel Online
So, the United States spies on its allies and its enemies.
It continues to amuse me that this surprises so many people in the mainstream. I mean, exactly what do they think the thousands of staff at the US National Security Agency (NSA) do with their time?
Come on, seriously, there are only so many dark-skinned suspected terrorists to track. And they can’t even do that – see the Boston Marathon bombing.
Besides, the real threat to the US isn’t from nutcases flying jet plans into big buildings or stuffing pressure cooker bombs into bins.
The collateral damage from that kind of terrorism is chump change compared to the kind of ‘terrorism’ that really frightens the US – political and financial terrorism…
But before I get into that, it’s worth mentioning one other thing.
Folks the mainstream would call ‘conspiracy theorists’, but whom I call ‘switched on’, are still writing in saying how outraged they are at my dismissive view of the NSA spying scandal.
It makes me wonder whether some folks really believed what they were saying. This should be their opportunity to say ‘I told you so.’ Instead they sound just like every mainstream analyst – ‘This is an outrage.’
I guess that’s the power of government propaganda and the innate faith that humans have in each other. You want to believe that governments are good, even if you suspect them of being bad.
But anyway, back to the NSA and its European spying activities.
Why would the US spy on Europe? Aren’t they supposed to be allies? Surely the US doesn’t think a Frenchman or German is about to bomb them. And the US doesn’t really believe Portugal or Italy are about to declare war.
As I say, the NSA’s spying activity doesn’t have anything to do with national security against terrorism or war. It’s economic and financial ‘terrorism’ that really scares the US.
