President Barack Obama is visiting Saudi Arabia this week, and as he packs his bags there are ongoing calls for him to release 28 classified pages from a report on the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Many are suspicious — including the families of 9/11 victims and many lawmakers — that the 28 pages include details of official Saudi Arabian involvement in the plot.
The 28 pages belong to an 833 page long joint congressional inquiry conducted in 2002 into the 9/11 attacks, which were perpetuated by 19 hijackers of which 15 were Saudi Arabian, as was the attack’s architect — Osama bin Laden.
In the past, President Obama reportedly promised twice to declassify and release documents, but failed to do so.
Previously, at the request of the Bush administration, the 28 pages were not released for national security reasons.
Many lawmakers — including those who have read the 28 pages — believe that they should be open to the public.
