Indiana Farm Service Agency State Executive Director Julia Wickard announced additional drought relief for Indiana’s livestock producers today. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack authorized the release of emergency haying and grazing lands for all Indiana counties for certain practices and acres enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program outside the primary nesting season for wildlife.
Wickard says, “This means just over 118,000 CRP acres on eligible practices are released.” She adds, “Given the widespread nature of this drought in Indiana, forage for livestock is already substantially reduced.” The additional acres, she says, will assist Hoosier farmers who raise livestock.
Producers should check with their local FSA office for clear guidance on what CRP practices are eligible.
