A new wheat variety has been released by South Dakota State University’s Ag Experiment Station. After more than a decade of development, the new hard red winter variety called “Ideal” will be available for growers.
Named for the small farming town of Ideal, in Central South Dakota, where lots of wheat is produced, the variety was selected for its yield, disease resistance and standability and “expresses good milling and baking characteristics,” according to SDSU. Ideal wheat was ranked at the top in regional trials.
