The ethanol production outlook for 2012 continues to fall given the widespread drought’s impact on corn harvest and prices. Today, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) lowered its 2012 production forecast for ethanol 3.3% — from 900-thousand barrels per day (3.8 Billion gallons) to 870-thousand barrels per day (13.3 Billion). The EIA report, however, says ethanol production is expected to recover in the second half of 2013 to 880-thousand barrels per day. For the week ending June 8th, U.S. ethanol production was 920-thousand barrels a day falling to 809-thousand by June 27th.
