New York – Police on two continents charged five top members of computer hacking group LulzSec early Tuesday, including a Chicagoan with a long rap sheet, acting largely on evidence gathered by the organization’s leader
Charges against four of the five were based on a conspiracy case filed in New York federal court.
An indictment charging the suspects, who include two men from Great Britain, two from Ireland and an American from Chicago, was unsealed Tuesday morning in the Southern District of New York.
The five charged in the LulzSec conspiracy indictment were identified as: Ryan Ackroyd, aka “Kayla” and Jake Davis, aka “Topiary,” both of the United Kingdom; Darren Martyn, aka “pwnsauce” and Donncha O’Cearrbhail, aka “palladium,” both of Ireland; and Jeremy Hammond aka “Anarchaos,” of Chicago.

Hammond was arrested on access device fraud and hacking charges and is believed to have been the main person behind the devastating December hack on US security company Stratfor.
Hammond was charged in a separate indictment, and sources described him as a member of Anonymous.
Hammond lives in his twin brother’s home in the 2900 block of South Quinn, where the FBI executed a search warrant Monday.
Hammond has a long rap sheet for felony-level computer hacking and credit card fraud dating back to 2005.
He appeared before a judge Tuesday morning at the Dirksen Federal Building wearing a black t-shirt inside out.
Hammond was charged with one count of computer hacking, one count of computer hacking conspiracy and one count of conspiracy to commit access device fraud.
In 2006, Hammond pled guilty to hacking into a credit card website and stealing information on 5,000 credit cards, then using those credit cards to make donations to humanitarian and charity groups.
