How’s This For Universal Healthcare: Rationing Begins – States Limiting Drug Prescriptions for Medicaid Patients

(Before It's News)

If you think President Obama’s health care mandates are going to fix America’s problems, think again. The system is already overwhelmed and is being inundated with thousands of people joining the Medicaid and Medicare roles every month. On top of that, more people than ever before are receiving government assistance for everything from disability benefits to nutritional food assistance.

While these best laid health care plans may look as good on paper for proponents of the programs as Marx’s theories of communism, in reality the system just can’t work efficiently for everyone. The evidence can be seen all around us.

When it comes to health care, we need only look to state programs that can no longer make good on their promises:

Sixteen states have set a limit on the number of prescription drugs they will cover for Medicaid patients, according to Kaiser Health News.

Seven of those states, according to Kaiser Health News, have enacted or tightened those limits in just the last two years.

Medicaid is a federal program that is carried out in partnership with state governments. It forms an important element of President Barack Obama’s health-care plan because under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act–AKA Obamcare–a larger number of people will be covered by Medicaid, as the income cap is raised for the program.

With both the expanded Medicaid program and the federal subsidy for health-care premiums that will be available to people earning up to 400 percent of the poverty level, a larger percentage of the population will be wholly or partially dependent on the government for their health care under Obamacare than are now.

“It only hurts a limited number of patients, ‘cause obviously it hurts patients who are taking multiple brand name drugs in the case of Alabama, Illinois. Some of the states are putting the limits on all drugs. It’s another place to cut. It doesn’t hurt everybody, but it could hurt some,” he added.

For now, the cuts in prescription drug availability may be limited in scope, but keep in mind that tens of millions of Americans are about to start receiving benefits. If government has proven one thing throughout history, it’s that they are VERY good at mismanaging distribution programs, so we can except further cuts not just for prescription drugs, but across the board for all manner of health care services.

The system as it exists today, and as it has been designed under Obamacare, simply cannot survive. In reality it takes money and managerial competence to make things work.

The money is quickly running out and the government is and has always been grossly incompetent in how they do business.

Do the math and you’ll come to the same conclusion I have. The entire health care system is destined for failure.
