LULAC Supports AT&T’s “No Text On Board – Pledge Day”

AT&T’s Commitment to Reduce the Number of Distracted Drivers on the Road

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) announced its support for AT&T’s “It Can Wait” campaign that will focus on educating and increasing awareness of the dangers of texting while driving. The company hopes to ultimately stop a dangerous practice that makes an individual 23 times more likely to crash while driving. Centered on the message, “No text is worth dying for,” AT&T hopes to make texting and driving as socially unacceptable as drinking and driving.

“People who text on the road are not only endangering themselves but are also endangering the lives of others,” said Margaret Moran, LULAC National President. “LULAC is supportive of AT&T’s commitment to increase public awareness about the hazards of texting while driving. The public needs critical information about the rising numbers of vehicular accidents that are caused each year because someone was distracted while texting.”

Between now and September 19th, AT&T will expand its texting while driving campaign and will primarily focus on reaching teen-aged drivers and their parents. As part of the campaign, on September 19th, AT&T will hold “No Text on Board” – Pledge Day.”

“The Hispanic community is not immune to the dangers caused by reckless activities such as texting while driving. AT&T’s ‘No Text on Board – Pledge Day,’ on September 19th is an excellent opportunity to inform the public about the dangers of texting while driving,” concluded President Moran.
