The Australian government promises to automatically release classified documents to the public after 30 years, via the National Archives website. Ya, 30 years is a long time. But most other western governments make people jump through Freedom of Information Act hoops for pretty much everything.
This week, they’ve released their UFO sightings cache from the 1970s and ’80s. So now anyone is free to visit the National Archives of Australia website (www.naa.gov.au) and search “UFO” — refine your search to specific years if you wish — and enjoy some formerly secret UFO government documents.
Naturally, the newspapers are pointing to the silliest reports, backing up the “all UFO sightings have down-to-Earth explanations” meme. For example the Sydney Morning Herald highlighted a mistaken blip on the radar, and a rock band testing out some laser light show equipment.
But surely there’s gotta be some juicier material in the “secret” UFO archive. I mean, the Australian government wouldn’t hide anything, would they?
