(Before It's News)

Don’t be conned by Prop. 204

It’s no surprise that the far left Arizona República is promoting a permanent extension of the temporary 1-cent sales tax, which is due to sunset May 31, 2013. The word ‘temporary’ appears over a dozen times in the senate resolution. When the temporary tax was passed by the voters in 2010, it was an emergency measure intended to alleviate the state’s “catastrophic” budget crisis.

We introduced you to the newspaper’s first effort back in March with the reminder that history has proven tax leviers become reliant upon the taxed. Conservatives know that the path to prosperity is not through higher taxes — especially in the worst economy since the Great Depression.

In June, this post exposed the deception when the measure was disqualified for the ballot after a random sampling of petitions at the Secretary of State’s Office found none matched the language previously submitted. We urge you to read it and be prepared for what is back, masquerading as an education and jobs initiative.

The deep reach into your pockets has returned after a legal challenge. Dubbed the Quality Education & Jobs Initiative, the 15-pages of no-strings-attached, mumbo jumbo seeks a citizen vote to authorize a permanent 1-cent-per-dollar increase in the state sales tax, with the proceeds to “prevent legislators from cutting K-12 education funding,”  provide “dedicated funding to students of all ages,“ provide college scholarships, underwrite school construction projects and a children’s health program. And if that’s not enough, the act “protects public safety by ensuring continued funding for DPS officers and creates jobs by funding road, rail, transit and other transportation projects.” The addition of construction trades and law enforcement will ensure support for the measure from unrelated sources.

The effort to set it in stone will appear on the November ballot as Proposition 204. The new hook that will be part and parcel of the high dollar campaign thrust to make the temporary tax never-ending is the same one we’ve heard repeatedly when school overrides are the issue: Its for the children. In a concept they hope to take to the bank, the group Vote 4 Education, calls this a “game changer in education.”  The real game changer would be performance related evaluations for teachers to ensure students actually receive an education.

The Periódico de la República de Arizona (Arizona Republic) views the state’s citizens as cash cows, always available to cough up a few more shekels to underwrite the next program promoted by liberals. You know that.  They even want us to pay for their on-line version of the leftwing spew they churn out. The East Valley Tribune has this message for the República: “Free the News.”

Don’t pay to be insulted. Read the Trib.
