State officials reported finding a tunnel in the northern part of the Topo Chico prison, which allegedly was being dug by at least six inmates of the prison.
The Director of Social Communication of the State Government, Jorge Domene, said the tunnel is about 17 meters long and 1.30 wide.
“A tunnel is about 17 meters long with about a depth of five feet and wide enough for one person to pass through at a time. Authorities agree it was build with the clear intention to trying to escape the prison “he said.
The excavation is near the area of the prison where there are cells not being used. However at least five officers are assigned to surveillance, so they are also under investigation.
