Are You Honoring Trans-Gender Day?

I had the unpleasant task of having to report on 20-odd transgender deaths during the past year. Sometimes, just presenting the victims’ names and how they died is enough to convey the importance of observing the Transgender Day of Remembrance.

This list is by no means a complete list. I should also point out that not everyone agrees on which types of deaths ought to be included in such lists. I’ve included domestic violence and suspicious deaths but excluded suicide. I’m starting with the most recent death and working my way back to November 2011: READMOREHERE

 

Tuesday, November 20, 2012 is the 14th annual International Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR). TDOR is a day to memorialize those whose lives were lost due to anti-transgender fear, bigotry and hatred. Around the world communities plan vigils to remember those who have died in the previous year. The below information is for students and student clubs who wish to recognize TDOR in their schools or communities. For more information about TDOR, please visit their website.

►CellRemembrance, work in your school and GSA to be more inclusive and supportive of transgender and gender-nonconforming youth. Make sure that you are encouraging people to continue acknowledging and addressing the issues that transgender and gender-non-conforming youth face even after TDOR passes.
