While New York City may be hosting the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, this weekend Tampa, Fla. opened its doors to Christian Fashion Week.
Although the event was only a two day affair this year – a VIP reception on Friday night and a runway show on Saturday, the creators are planning to expand over time, reports the Associated Press.
According to the event’s website, the focus of the show is to allow designers to create within a values-based setting that stresses modesty, boldness, and true style.
“A lot of the designers we talked with looked at the challenge as a creative challenge,” Jose Gomez, one of the event organizers, told the Associated Press. “How do we push the boundaries, with boundaries?”
Featuring eight designers, not all of whom are Christian, the event will differ in several ways from a regular fashion show, states the Associated Press. These alterations include separate changing areas for men and women models as well as a woman only audience for the female swimsuit showing.
“I have always felt women should be able to express themselves in a non-provocative way without losing their style,” said designer Evelyn Lambert on the event website. “This platform helps me suggest just that.”
The Associated Press reports that organizers may be considering a bigger city for next year’s event.
