Colombian troops killed three FARC rebels and captured four others during operations in the province of Caqueta, the army said, while Bogota daily El Tiempo reported that a guerrilla attack in Guaviare province left two dead and 25 injured.
The insurgent losses took place amid clashes in the town of San Vicente between soldiers and elements of the 63rd Front of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, the army said in a statement.
The troops also seized nine rifles, five handguns, 37 grenades, 42 homemade bombs and several two-way radios.
A total of eight FARC fighters surrendered to the military in separate incidents in Caqueta.
In Guaviare, meanwhile, one police officer and a child were killed and another 25 people were wounded in a FARC attack, El Tiempo said on its Web site.
The assault occurred when police, soldiers and first responders were fighting a fire, the city clerk in Miraflores told the newspaper.
“It was then they apparently launched a grenade,” Jose Beltran Poveda said, adding that shots were heard in the town Monday night.
The Colombian government and the FARC are going forward with peace talks in Cuba, with the express intention of ending once and for all the armed conflict that the Andean nation has suffered for half a century.
