The Littoral Combat Ship USS Freedom will be the first Navy vessel painted in camouflage since WWII. Back during the World Wars, the U.S. Navy was known to camouflage some of their ships, a practice that fell out of style.
The USS Freedom will be heading to Southeast Asia as the Navy’s hottest new ship in the renewed focus on the region. Freedom is a smaller vessel that only holds a crew of 91 sailors but is designed to perform operations close to shore, which will prove advantageous in and around the shallow waters of Southeast Asia’s many islands.
