North Korea’s official news agency, KCNA, just announced that the government intends to reactivate all of its nuclear facilities.
The reactivation includes the controversial Yongbyon nuclear facilities that was had been shut down since 2007 as part of a global disarmament agreement. The government cites its need for electricity and “military development” as the cause for the reactivation.
This announcement comes on the heals of war-like threats against the U.S. last week. North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong Un recently issued warnings of a possible nuclear strike inside the U.S.
Experts believe this latest provocation is in reaction to the U.S. working with North Korea’s neighbor and nemesis South Korea. The two countries are conducting joint military exercises, in case North Korea attacks its southern neighbor.
