One of the largest Latino social networking sites, Mi Gente, is expanding its horizons and launched the first mobile phone network designed for Latinos. The Latino demographic over-index in mobile phone use and Mi Gente’s goal is to offer a new wireless network designed specifically for Latinos.
The company noted through its founders, Manuel Garcia and Andre Mullen that “Unlike other telephone companies, our service and effort is centered within the Latino community, the largest growing minority in the United States in the coming years. A variety of plans are on offer with no conditions or hidden fees, combining voice, text and data. No activation fees or extra fees for smartphone useage.”
Another key offering according to Mi Gente’s marketing material is their international calling services, the rates associated with that service are expected to be among the lowest in the U.S. starting at .02 cents per minute.
Mi Gente launched in 2000 as an online niche social-network site for Latinos; currently has over 3 million members. Mi Gente offers its members music, jobs, forums, chat, photos, personals and groups all targeted to the specific interests of the Latino-American community.
