Interior designer and Oprah pal Nate Berkus chose the 15th century Inca citadel of Machu Picchu to propose to his boy friend of nearly 9 months, Jeremiah Brent.
The Chicago native and former host of ‘The Nate Berkus Show’ tweeted the engagement announcement along with an Instagram photo of the couple using the site as a backdrop. Machu Picchu is located some 7,900 feet above sea level and is on the UN’s list of World Heritage sites.
Berkus, 41, was discovered on the Oprah Show and has parlayed his design talents into an empire that includes a furnishings line, books and a multi-faceted design firm.
Brent is also involved in the world of interior design as a member of Team Zoe, affiliated with Rachel Zoe. Jeremiah has worked with numerous celebrity clients, designing everything from home interiors to multi-million dollar nightclubs.
To many Peruvians Machu Picchu is a sacred religious site because it housed the Incan emperor. The relationship between Berkus and Brent is considered blessed for the ages.
