(Before It's News)

Secretary of State John Kerry appearing on CNN during an oversees trip to Asia stated that he has anecdotally heard concerns among foreign students unwilling to study in the United States due to perceived gun violence.

“We had an interesting discussion about why fewer students are coming to, particularly from Japan, to study in the United States, and one of the responses I got from our officials from conversations with parents here is that they’re actually scared,” said Kerry. “They think they’re not safe in the United States and so they don’t come.”

In Japan, where Kerry made the statement, only a dozen of the countries 600 homicides are committed with guns.  It should be noted that Japan has the worlds highest suicide rate.
