A hunger strike by prisoners at the US-run Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba has entered its 97th day, as authorities failed to end the protest strike.
US authorities claimed that 100 of the total 166 Guantanamo inmates are currently on hunger strike, but attorneys of the foreign detainees reported that 130 detainees have joined the protest effort.
Nearly two dozen of the captives are being force-fed via tubes snaked up their nose and into their stomach.
On May 10, lawyers said prisoners would face humiliating body searches if they choose to meet with their attorneys.
The hunger strike at the infamous US military detention facility originally began in early February and has drastically surged in recent weeks.
This is while most of the 166 detainees being held at the jail have been cleared for release or have never been charged.
The detainee™s refusal to eat came as an effort to protest the searching of their personal belongings by prison guards as well as their indefinite detention without any charges or the right to a trial.
