(Before It's News)

A team of graduate students from the University of Minnesota have released a video depicting a small robotic aircraft being controlled by their thoughts.

Headed by Biomedical Engineering professor Bin He, the revolutionary airborne robot detects currents emitted from neurons in the brain’s motor cortex. Electrodes embedded within an EEG cap send the signals to a computer that translates the pattern into a command. The drone receives the data via WiFi.

Professor He hopes the new technology – which is noninvasive, will help people who cannot move or speak by giving them the ability to control tools such as a wheelchair or artificial limb.

“It is all about helping people with a disability or various neurodegenerative disease,” remarked He.
